On behalf of the Congress Local Organizing Committee, we look forward to welcoming you in June to Sydney, a beautiful harbour city situated on the east coast of Australia!

David Burn, Chair of the Congress Scientific Program Committee, has outlined the many scientific highlights that await you at the Congress. But take a moment to rest and restore, by visiting some of the scenic, cultural and historic highlights of the city, many of which are closely situated to the Sydney Convention Center and city center.

The iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House can be explored close up. You can ascend via one of the Bridge pylons from the Rocks to the walking pathway and stroll over the Bridge, but for one of the best views you will ever get, book a Bridge Climb and walk over the arch of the Bridge! The sails of the Opera House are of course magical from a distance, but venture in and amongst the sails by taking an Opera House tour, or booking a concert or play in the evening.

Bondi beach is a short bus or taxi ride from the city centre - there you can walk along the long stretches of sand, or sit over a coffee or local beer and watch the locals wandering by! Take the coastal walk to Tamarama or Bronte and see the Pacific Ocean crashing relentlessly against the headlands.

For a more tranquil look at the harbour, visit the Botanical Gardens. Drop in to the Art Gallery of NSW for a look at Australian classical paintings, but also indigenous and Asian artworks. Or to the Museum of Contemporary Art for a more modern take on what is art..

You will see sharks and dugongs at the Sydney Aquarium, situated in Darling Harbour where the Convention Centre is also located, or take a ferry across the harbour to Taronga Zoo, where you will see native animals up close and personal.

Sydney is home to around 4.6 million people and proudly multicultural. It has many fine dining restaurants as well as fused and unfused Asian cuisine that will alert the most jaded taste buds! It's a wonderful way of exploring the international flavor of the city.

The 17th International Congress promises to excite both the mind and soul. We look forward to seeing you at the Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception on the evening of Sunday 16th June at the Sydney Convention Center for the start of a memorable week!
