Course Description

This course will include faculty within South Africa, including therapists and nurses, as well as specialist doctors. Parkinson’s disease patients from local clinics will be brought in for hands on examinations. Ten nurses from South Africa and an average of three each from Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Botswana will be invited. Nurses will be selected from Neurology units with recognition that they will be involved in the care of PD patients upon their return.

Following the course, an Internet support group will be organized. The PD Nurse Specialist Association (PDNSA) in the UK has agreed that each PDNS will have a personal PDNS mentor in the UK. Each participant will be expected to submit a report about their work in relation to Parkinson’s disease after 6 months. MDS will routinely follow up with participants to survey the benefit gained from attending this course.
