If you are aware of any changes or would like to update the information for your own movement disorder group, please contact your country’s Liaison Delegate or contact Sarah Smith (ssmith@movementdisorders.org) at the MDS International Secretariat.
MDS is aware that to achieve its goals, it is essential to establish and maintain close collaborations with other neurological societies, national movement disorder groups, and to reach out to areas of the world which are currently underserved.
The Liaison Delegates Program was initiated under the chairmanship of Professor Christopher Goetz and currently includes delegates in more than 60 countries around the world. The Society realizes that its Liaison Delegates potentially have an important role in these efforts. Any information that needs to be disseminated to neurologists in various countries, such as information on educational programs, the Visiting Professor Program, etc., and vice versa may be handled directly through the Liaison Delegate.
Over the past years, the Liaison Delegate Committee has therefore aimed to recruit persons with close links to or a role within their national neurological societies or Movement Disorder groups. Liaison Delegates have engaged in activities such as:
- Contacting the organizers of local or national meetings to determine an interest in Movement Disorders related educational programs,
- Communicating the possibility of full or partial MDS endorsement to meeting organizers,
- Communicating the option for national Movement Disorder groups to join MDS as Affiliate Members,
- Negotiating PR activities for MDS at Movement Disorders related meetings and in regional or national publications,
- Communicating the waived dues membership option where appropriate, etc.
Because each country is organized differently, MDS prefers to tailor these communication efforts to respect each country's needs, and therefore, always welcomes the Liaison Delegates’ suggestions and feedback.
The Liaison Delegates have also helped in the task to compile a list of national Movement Disorder groups. Efforts to complete and update this list are on-going.
Please e-mail Sarah Smith at the International Secretariat with questions or suggestions.
