Botulinum Toxin Training Course

Botulinum Toxin Training Course

Course Description

Despite increasingly widespread use of botulinum toxin (BoNT) for neurological rehabilitation and other disorders, there is rarely a recognized or regularly available training scheme on this topic in the Asian and Oceanian region. This two day workshop is intended to address this practice gap through didactic lectures from international experts, interactive case discussions, and a patient practicum.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, you should be able to accomplish the following:

  • Explain how BoNT works in relation to movement disorders.
  • Describe the BoNT therapy approaches in specific disorders such as dystonia and spasticity in adults and children.
  • Describe the techniques of BoNT muscle injections from clinical localization to use of EMG and ultrasound.
  • Identify the potential adverse events of BoNT following injections of specific body regions or during multi-level injections.
  • Describe a treatment plan that incorporates medical-surgical therapies and chemodenervation for various movement disorders, including advantages of a multi-disciplinary team.
