Message from the Editors: April-May 2009 Edition
By Hubert H. Fernandez, MD and Marcelo Merello, MD, PhD
Co-Medical Editors, MDS Website
Welcome to the April-May Edition of the MDS website.
This edition features two updates from some of our most respected and brightest PSP researchers.
In his article, "What is progressive supranuclear palsy?" Prof. David Williams explains how defined pathologically, PSP can be reliably associated with at least three different clinical syndromes, which seem to be related to different degrees of pathological severity.
Related to the latest and most promising developments in PSP, Dr. Lawrence Golbe discusses the recent advances on diagnostic and treatment of the disease.
Also in this edition, our Web Editorial Board has chosen "Odor identification test as an indicator of idiopathic REM sleep behaviour disorder" by Tomoyuki Miyamoto et al, as our featured Editor's Choice Article.
This article can be read in its entirety by MDS members and non-members alike! We have invited Dr. Matthew B. Stern to provide his comments and share some additional insights on the understanding of the neurodegeneration in PD and DLBD and the possibility to detect features of the disease before neurologic symptoms predominate.
We also invite you to view our new Case of the Month and Curbside Consult. Consider also submitting your own challenging and interesting cases for our future editions, share your thoughts by sending us a note, or by voting at our Online Poll!
