Message from the Website Co-Editors

Hubert Fernandez, MD, and Susan Fox, MRCP (UK), PhD
MDS Website Medical Co-Editors

Welcome to the December 2013/January 2014 edition of the MDS website.

Case of the Month

In this edition we are please to feature a Video Case of the Month contributed by Dr. David Arkadir, MD, PhD, of Columbia Medical Center, NY, entitled: "A 38-year-old woman with long-standing generalized dystonia and new additional involuntary movements." (Members Only)

With the advent of the new Movement Disorders-Clinical Practice online Journal in February 2014, submissions to "Case of the Month" will no longer be accepted through the MDS website. We hope you return in February to visit Clinical Practice to learn how to submit your manuscript for consideration and to view new video cases.

Movement Disorders Journal Commentary: Parkinson's Disease and Alpha Synuclein

Also, we hear from MDS member Dr. Gerald Stern, MD, London, United Kingdom, who comments on the Movement Disorders Journal article, "Parkinson's Disease and Alpha Synuclein: Is Parkinson's Disease a Prion-Like Disorder?" Read Dr. Stern's commentary, "The enigma of alpha-synuclein."

Coming Soon! Movement Disorders-Clinical Practice

Movement Disorders-Clinical Practice, is the new exclusively online journal from the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society. Debuting in February 2014, the sister publication to Movement Disorders, Movement Disorders-Clinical Practice seeks to publish peer-reviewed articles that are focused on clinical practice and educational issues relevant to movement disorders neurology.

Particular emphasis will be placed on updates in clinical patient management, new advances in clinical diagnosis, novel observations on phenomenology, and practice-related management. This journal will also publish important individual case presentations, case series, and vignettes with and without accompanied videos.

Happy Holidays to MDS Members Across the Globe

Finally, to our colleagues and friends around the world, we wish you a most happy holiday season and best wishes for a joyous new year in 2014!
