On April 3, 2009, MDS-AOS hosted a 1-day conjoined Movement Disorders course with the 8th Biennial Convention of the ASEAN Neurological Association (ASNA) & Neurosciences 2009, the 20th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences.
Using didactic lectures with question and answer sessions and interactive video-based seminar, this intensive course covered the key aspects of movement disorders and provided an update on the various treatment options available today. Disorders covered included Parkinson’s disease, Wilson’s disease, Dystonia, Tics & Myoclonus, Huntington’s disease & Huntington look-alike syndromes, Psychogenic Movement Disorders, Gait disorders, and Movement Disorders emergencies.
Among the excellent faculty who participated in this event, MDS-AOS sponsored the speakers Professors Robert Iansek (Australia), Apichart Pisarnpong (Thailand) and Louis Tan (Singapore). There were over 150 participants from 10 countries attending this course at the conference. The delegates were those specializing primarily in Neurology, Movement Disorders, Geriatrics and General Medicine. This was the first time the ASNA and MDS collaborated on movement disorders education and positive feedback from delegates indicates that future opportunities of this kind will be well received.
