Essential Characteristics and Classification of Movement Disorders

Course Purpose

The primary purpose of this course is to provide information on essential characteristics and classification of movement disorders.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners will be able to:

1. Recognize and identify clinical features suggesting parkinsonism, the prototypical hypokinetic movement disorder.

2. Identify and describe the characteristics of hyperkinetic movement disorders, including tremor, dystonia, chorea, tics, and myoclonus.

3. Recognize the clinical features of cerebellar dysfunction

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for neurologists, primary care physicians with an interest in movement disorders, neurology residents and movement disorder fellows.
