Journal CME 37.12: Identifying Protective Drugs for Parkinson’s Disease in Health-Care Databases Using Machine Learning

Course Purpose

Journal CME highlights various articles covering relevant issues, developments and research topics in the area of movement disorders. Articles are selected from Movement Disorders, the official Journal of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners will be able to:

1. Understand the importance of identifying existing molecules that may present a therapeutic or preventive benefit for PD
2. Assess the screening strategy utilized in this study to detect potentially protective associations between marketed drugs and PD
3. Recognize the value of ML-based signal detection algorithms for identifying drugs inversely associated with PD risk in health-care databases

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for clinicians, other health professionals, researchers, policy makers from throughout the world, both MDS members and non-members, who interact with patients living with Movement Disorders.
