MDS Regional Section Travel Grants and Support Opportunities

Travel Bursaries & Travel Grants

Travel bursaries and travel grants are an application-based assistance program available to residents of an MDS Lower Income eligible country.

Travel bursaries are available in the MDS European Section (MDS-ES) and the MDS Asian and Oceanian Section (MDS-AOS), while travel grants are available in the MDS Pan American Section (MDS-PAS).

Travel bursaries and travel grants provide financial assistance to selected participants that can be used to offset the cost of attending an MDS educational course.  The travel bursary or grant is sent by bank transfer following completion of the course.

Please note that not all MDS education courses offer travel bursaries or travel grants, therefore, please visit the individual course webpages in order to determine if financial assistance is being offered. Eligibility requirements may vary from course to course.

Visiting Trainee Grant Program

The Visiting Trainee Grant Program is an application-based assistance program that is available for MDS members to attend a clinical fellowship or research program outside of their home country, in order to bring back medical or research knowledge back to their professional practice. This program is available in the MDS Pan American Section (MDS-PAS), MDS European Section (MDS-ES), MDS Asian and Oceanian Section (MDS-AOS), and MDS Africa.

Through the program, applicants are able to apply for financial assistance to supplement travel costs and living expenses. In order to apply the applicant must be accepted by the hosting institution; the program director at that institution will have to acknowledge their acceptance, dates of training, and deliverables required of the trainee. The trainee will provide reports on their progress throughout and after their training.

The application process will open August 1st each year for all regions, while the MDS-PAS will have a supplemental application cycle beginning January 1st each year.

African Travel Grants

The African Travel Grant is an application-based assistance program available only to residents of countries located within Africa.

Selected recipients of the African Travel Grant will receive complimentary registration, airfare, and hotel accommodation arranged by the MDS Secretariat. Some recipients may have the opportunity to attend additional education days at the host institution. This varies from course to course.

Please note that not all MDS education courses offer African Travel Grants, therefore, please visit the individual course webpages in order to determine if this grant is being offered. Eligibility requirements may vary from course to course.
