Han-Joon Kim, MD, Seoul National University Hospital
Beomseok Jeon, MD, PhD, Seoul National University Hospital
After a variable period of ‘honeymoon period’ with levodopa treatment, patients with PD may begin to develop long-term complications including motor fluctuations and levodopa-induced dyskinesias, which have a negative impact on quality of life and can be a significant challenge to adequate management. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has been an established treatment option for selected patients with long-term complications and recently new devices are being introduced with advanced programming options. In addition, levodopa/carbidopa intrajejunal gel (LCIG) and apomorphine injection/infusion are applied in more and more patients with long-term complications. However, let alone their affordability, still there is a room for improvement in awareness and availability of these treatment options in AOS region.
Given these, this course aims to provide education of practical aspects of DBS, LCIG, and apomorphine injection/infusion. During this one-day course, indications, procedures, complications and troubleshooting for each treatment options will be discussed.
