Course Description

The Allied Health Team Training for Parkinson’s disease is a three-day course designed by the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society Pan American Section (MDS-PAS) to increase knowledge about Parkinson’s disease, to build capacity for comprehensive inter-professional care in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

  • One of the goals of the course is to generate interdisciplinary teams of professionals who work in movement disorders clinics and projects that serve both patients and the professionals who serve them.
  • Provide interactive learning through five defined lecture modules, with question and answer time. Attendees: physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, therapists, nutritionists and neurologists in movement disorders, will highlight the knowledge required in motor, cognitive and language management of those patients with limitations in these areas.
  • The course will conclude with video case demonstrations of three patients in different stages of their illness, which will allow both the attendees and speakers to interact and discuss their different approaches, as well as possible alternatives in patient management. 
     

Course Language: The course will be presented in Spanish with some lectures in English, as noted in the program. Simultaneous translation will be available. 

Recommended Audience

The course is intended for nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language therapists, social workers, psychologists, neurologists physicians and the majority of whom already have some experience with the management of Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, and are interested in further education and collaboration.

Learning Objectives
  • Describe the Latin American Perspective (in Mexico) of Parkinson’s disease
  • Implement the use of an interdisciplinary and/or inter-professional team when working with patients living with Parkinson’s disease 
  • Support a person with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners in self-management
  • Identify the different clinical and social approaches when working with patients living intermediate and advanced Parkinson’s disease

Refund Policy: For cancellation 2 weeks in advance of a course the registration fee will be 100% refunded, minus a $25 administrative fee. For cancellation within 2 weeks of a course, the registration fee is non-refundable.
