Moving Along

Q&A: Meet Moving Along Editor, Antonio Strafella

The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) is pleased to announce that Antonio Strafella, MD, PhD, FRCPC, has accepted the position as sole Editor of Moving Along (2019-2021). Dr. Strafella is a Professor of Neurology and Canada Research Chair, in the Neurology Division at Toronto Western Hospital-UHN at the University of Toronto, and is a long standing member of MDS, having served in numerous committee roles within the Society, as well as a former Associate Editor of Movement Disorders.

Q: What interested you in the position as Moving Along Editor?
A: In the last few years, the rapid growth of social media outlets has made communication an essential and challenging component of our professional life. In this rapidly evolving landscape, I envision a new dynamic format of Moving Along, informing the international community on new and exciting developments in the field of Movement Disorders in a more timely fashion for our readership. In addition, it would highlight recent advances in basic and clinical research and provide a forum to discuss the many controversial issues produced by scientific progress. There is a variety of clinical and research activities conducted by our MDS members at large that could be highlighted and would make our MDS member community an important component of the new format of Moving Along.

Q: What is a primary focus for you in your first year as Editor?
A: I will be creating a small editorial board, comprised of LEAP graduates from the various MDS Regional Sections, to help brainstorming about new ideas, engaging the MDS community, facilitating production and acquiring new interesting content and material for Moving Along

Q: What is your vision for the future of Moving Along?
A: Given the explosion of social media platforms in the last few years, I believe that we should start focusing on improving its electronic format to be closely linked to social media channels like Twitter, Facebook, etc., eventually merging the social media outlets with Moving Along publication material. We could envision a combination of weekly newsletter highlighting the latest clinical/research activities, followed by monthly expert activity report from the Scientific Leaders. The objective is to create a highly dynamic newsletter to which would highlight the most relevant scientific activities among the MDS community.
