14th Asian & Oceanian Congress of Neurology – Macau, China, March 2-5, 2014

The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society was among many supporting organizations of the 14th Asian & Oceanian Congress of Neurology (AOCN 2014), an important major regional neurology congress of the Asian & Oceanian Association of Neurology (AOAN). The event was held on March 2-5, 2014 in Macau, China and welcomed over 500 attendees from more than 30 countries. 

The Movement Disorder Workshop on March 2, 2014 covered topics on Approach to Movement Disorders (basic to advanced), MDS-UPDRS and medical and surgical aspects of Deep Brain Stimulation.  Speakers included Prof. Roongroj Bhidayasiri, Prof. Victor Fung, Prof. Beomseok Jeon, Prof. Ruey-Meei Wu, Dr. Nelson Cheung and Dr. Danny Chan.

There were also Movement Disorders lectures on pathogenesis and genetics of Parkinson’s disease (Prof. Ruey-Meei Wu), biomarkers of Parkinson’s disease (Prof. Shendi Chen), medical & surgical management of Parkinson’s disease (Prof. Beomseok Jeon), update in dystonia (Prof. Victor Fung), Parkinsonism-plus syndromes (Prof. Barry Snow) and movement disorders in Asia (Prof. Roongroj Bhidayasiri). 

The AOCN provided not only an excellent platform for neurology education and sharing of research findings, but also an opportunity to strengthen connections with numerous countries on the further development of Movement Disorders as well as other subspecialties in Neurology.
