WriteMACRO
Target population: Patients with Parkinson's disease
Measures: Handwriting and micrographia
Clinical support: Monitoring, Prediction
The WriteMACRO mobile application is a free writing suite (database) developed to analyze micrographia and to help encourage those living with micrographia to write again.
The application includes writing prompts to give users the ability to write creatively; a to-do list to write down daily tasks; and a notebook to doodle, write thoughts, and even draw. The application will not allow you to type — you have to use a stylus. The goal is to use the data to create a robust algorithm to analyze characteristics of micrographia for monitoring handwriting and further assisting with diagnosing micrographia. The database of handwriting samples will further analyze micrographia with the overall goal to help physicians, movement disorder specialists and neurologists determine the symptoms of micrographia and link to Parkinson's disease.
The team is also working on adding a downloadable report of writing progression to help patients share the characteristics and results of their writing progression with their providers.
