Mission & goals
The mission of the Wellness Study Group is to study and promote wellness initiatives globally that affect people living with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, specifically, by creating an evidence base for holistic lifestyle counselling in the pillars of sleep, exercise, diet, mind-body approaches, mental health and social connection that can be variously applied within community settings.
General objectives include:
- Steer the direction of future research on the role of various wellness activities in movement disorder management
- Highlight benefits of operationalizing wellness through incorporation into clinical care plans by general practitioners as well as movement disorder specialists
- Review the literature to inform consensus recommendations for prescribing each of the aforementioned wellness pillars
- Increase international collaborative research efforts among Society members to investigate existing global access to wellness interventions
