PD-Monitor

Target population: Patients with Parkinson's disease

Measures:  Bradykinesia

Clinical support:  Diagnostic

PD-monitor is a medical device providing objective measure of bradykinesia in the routine finger tapping test. PD-monitor combines wearable sensor technology and a white-box machine learning algorithm that has been specifically trained to recognise bradykinesia, an important but difficult-to-quantify symptom of Parkinson’s disease. A large-scale clinical validation study including PD patients, Essential Tremor patients and normal controls confirmed that PD-monitor not only can provide an objective assessment of bradykinesia, but also can differentiate essential tremor from Parkinson’s disease. In addition to clinical setting, PD-monitor has supported several multi-center drug research studies in the UK to provide objectivity and consistency for the assessment of motor symptoms. PD-monitor comes with a wearable sensor system and a tablet computer.
