On April 11, the world celebrated World Parkinson’s Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about Parkinson’s disease and inspiring patients worldwide to fight this progressive and debilitating disorder. This year, the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) joined forces with the Global Alliance to End Parkinson’s Disease, an alliance of more than 100 professional and patient advocacy organizations globally, with the mission of igniting change and putting an end to Parkinson’s disease. Through this new partnership, MDS aims to reach a wider audience committed to improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s disease.
MDS supported and promoted this important day by standing together with the global Parkinson’s disease community, including patients, caregivers, physicians, and allied health professionals. Through a month-long social media campaign, MDS highlighted our partners around the world, how they contribute to PD care and research, and the impacts they are making on the PD community. MDS affiliate organizations, as well as internal PD working groups, were invited to share brief statements and testimonials in their native languages, answering the question: “How do you help people with PD?” These messages were posted on MDS social media platforms throughout the month of April.
