Movement Disorders Impact Factor Rises to 6.01

MILWAUKEE, WI – The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) is pleased to announce that the Movement Disorders impact factor has increased to 6.01, now ranking 14 out of 192 Clinical Neurology titles, according to the 2015 Thomson Reuters Journal Citation Reports© rankings.

The impact factor of an academic journal is a performance measure based on the yearly average number of citations to recently published articles during the previous two years. This latest statistic marks the eighth consecutive year that the impact factor for the journal has increased. Furthermore, it shows nearly a 6% increase, rising from 5.68 in 2014. The continued increase in impact factor reflects the number of citations resulting from the high quality research being published in Movement Disorders.

Editor-in-Chief, Prof. José A. Obeso, states, “The latest impact factor is extremely significant, primarily because an impact factor over 6 now makes Movement Disorders a highly competitive publication among all neurology titles. It also will expand interest and quality of the articles submitted for publication.” Obeso continues, “There are few basic neuroscience journals with an impact factor between 6 and 10, which likely will make Movement Disorders more attractive for articles on experimental topics in the field.”

MDS President, Oscar Gershanik, states “The continued success of Movement Disorders allows MDS to further its mission of disseminating knowledge and promoting research in the field.” Gershanik adds, “On behalf of MDS, I would like to acknowledge the entire Movement Disorders editorial team, including Editor-in-Chief, José A. Obeso, Deputy Editor, A. Jon Stoessl, Assistant Editor, Maria Stamelou, Managing Editor, Julie Nash, as well as all Associate Editors and Members of the International Editorial Board. Without their efforts and contributions, this great achievement would not be possible.”

The latest research in Movement Disorders can be found in the Wiley Online Library at www.movementdisordersjournal.org.
