Estimated monthly costs:  Rent is USD $450-$750 in Santiago, and additonal living costs are USD $650-700. There are no institution fees.
Support available from host site: CETRAM provides orientation for trainees to get adequate accommodation and transport. We suggest our international fellows have a sponsor in their country or a stipend from their local institution to cover expenses associated with their stay in Santiago; CETRAM provides no compensation.
Administrative requirements: Applicants must have completed an accredited residency program in neurology. They must submit two Letters of Recommendation, a Curriculum Vitae, a Letter of Intent to the Fellowship Coordinator, and a Letter of Support from their institution or sponsor. International fellows must hire international medical insurance valid in Chile.

Educational activities

  • List of readings and books of references related to movement disorders. Quarterly feedback according to the advances in the knowledge acquired and practical skills
  • Shadow staff members at the movement disorders clinic from Monday to Friday. A supervised fellow’s clinic is part of the program.
  • Proficiently use clinical rating scales for movement disorders and related research. 
  • Observe and perform supervised botulinum toxin injections. The training includes a workshop and a talk series on botulinum toxin and EMG-Ultrasound-guided injections. 
  • Deep brain stimulation surgery and MR-guided high-frequency ultrasound are available in some Chilean centers. Fellows are expected to understand the basics of these therapies. 
  • Participation in the situational approach team, and activities in the community house and rehabilitation program.
  • Prepare weekly meetings and comprehensive literature reviews for the patient care conference.
  • Oversee neurology residents’ weekly seminars on different movement disorders topics.
  • Prepare at least one case report or literature review for publication or presentation to a professional society during their fellowship.
  • Conduct and prepare one retrospective or prospective study for publication or abstract presentation at a professional society congress during their fellowship. 

  • Participate in research under the guidance of supervising faculty.
