New MDS Career Development course brings together key skills and top expert advice

The new MDS Career Development Program provides an educational resource on career development for MDS members, particularly young members.

The program was created by the 2021 - 2023 MDS Education Committee, chaired by Professor Carolyn Sue. The goal of the program is to support the growth of key skills that will aid members in future advancement within the field of movement disorders. The Career Development program, which took more than two years to design and build, now features 60 online lectures that cover 5 key domains:

Fundamental Skills
Communication Skills
Engagement, Collaboration and Networking
Mentorship
Leadership

Professors Carolyn Sue and Pramod Pal speak about the MDS Career Development Program at the Pavillion during the MDS Congress 2023 in Copenhagen.

The program was specifically developed by a 13-member Career Development Sub-committee, with representatives from all four MDS regions: Wael Mohamed (MDS-AS), Carolyn Sue, (Chair); Pramod Pal, (Co-Chair); Eiko Minakawa; Jinghong Ma, Jong-Min Kim, Yih-Ru Wu (MDS-AOS); Cristian Falup-Pecurariu, Maria Stamelou, Francesca Morgante, Anhar Hassan (MDS-ES); Roy Alcalay, Shilpa Chitnis, Veronica Bruno (MDS-PAS). The program was developed using a comprehensive series of Society member surveys, interviews with key organizational stakeholders, and discussions with both professionals and practitioners to ensure an accurate understanding of needs, goals, scope and parameters of career development education.

The program includes a variety of formats, including self-guided e-learning modules and accessible online lectures. For the first time, members who complete the courses can apply for a digital badge that signifies the successful completion of the program.
