Member awarded Cross of Civil Merit by King of Spain

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Proclamation of His Majesty Felipe VI, King of Spain, through this act, the Crown has recognized, with gratitude, the civic virtues that are exercised daily by so many Spaniards; it has given visibility to behaviors that allow articulating, substantiating, and building a better society and has highlighted outstanding people and behaviors, personifying them as an example of many others that are repeated throughout society.

All 17 autonomous regions and the two autonomous cities from Spain were represented in the list of recipients. There were nine women and 10 men between the ages of 35 and 89. The professions represented are related to different sectors: education, culture, health, volunteering, engineering, sustainability, agriculture, livestock, tourism, etc.

The work praised was the research conducted in rare diseases such as Huntington's disease, giving visibility to people affected by this disease.

I must end by saying that this recognition has made me very happy as a neurologist, woman, and researcher, but above all, it has increased the awareness of patients with movement disorders, especially those with rare diseases. This type of recognition represents the first steps for supporting socio-sanitary improvements, as well as interventions for decreasing disease burden and related disability.
