Nominations Sought for Editor of the MDS Newsletter, Moving Along

The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) is seeking nominations for an Editor or Co-Editors of the Society's newsletter, Moving Along, to serve a 3-year term (with the option to renew once), beginning in January 2025.

The current Moving Along Editor, Dr. Antonio Strafella, will conclude his term at the end of 2024. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities of Duties and Responsibilities of Moving Along Editors

The Editor(s) may select an Editorial Board with diverse regional and gender representation to assist with strategy and oversight of content. The Editor(s) will oversee the Editorial Board and work with the MDS Communications staff to produce quarterly issues of the newsletter each year. Issues will include the following types of articles: 

  • Cover stories (Relevant topics to MDS members or the field of Movement Disorders)
  • Member interviews
  • Scientific highlights  
  • Committee/Task Force/Special Interest group reports 
  • Important updates from MDS meetings and other global events

The Editor(s) will work with the Editorial Board to determine appropriate topics and/or themes for each issue and decide on appropriate authorship. They will also work to determine potential new formats and opportunities to provide members with relevant scientific content. 

Reporting Structure

The Editor(s) have editorial independence in regard to content. However, the position is responsible for providing bi-annual reports to the MDS Communications Oversight Committee (COC) as well as the MDS Officers. These reports include both editorial successes and challenges, as well as suggestions for improvement. Additionally, any budgetary requests or new projects would need the review and approval of both the COC and the Officers.

Submission of Nominations

Interested candidates for this position must be current Members of MDS.
Nominations for Moving Along editor should include a statement of the nominee’s personal details (e.g., name, affiliated institution, address, email, phone/fax etc.), qualifications, relevant experience, and a brief CV including experience with respect to editing.

Candidates should also submit a strategic vision for Moving Along, specifically addressing the following questions:

  • What is your vision for Moving Along?
  • What content would you like to see changed and/or preserved?
  • What skills will you bring to the position? 

Nominations must be submitted by July 15, 2024. Final candidates will be selected and notified in August, and in-person interviews will take place at the International Congress in Philadelphia, PA, USA, September 27 - October 1.
