Awardee’s work gives voice to communities underrepresented in Parkinson’s research in Africa  

Dr. Tash Fothergill-Misbah shares about the research, documentary and policy work on the ground that earned her recognition for the 2023 Tom Isaacs Award. 


Tash Fothergill-Misbah is the winner of the 2023 Tom Isaacs Award, granted by the from Cure Parkinson’s and Van Andel Institute. Her work centers around giving voice to communities that have been underrepresented in academic research, focused in Parkinson’s disease in Africa.  

In an interview with Moving Along, she discusses her many achievements, including research work with Transforming Parkinson's Care in Africa (TraPCAf), policy consulting with the World Health Organization Brain Health Unit, and recent documentary, “Shaking Hands with the Devil,” about the intense stigma people with Parkinson’s face in Kenya.
