Learn to teach other allied health professionals in Africa to work with movement disorders patients. Over the course of 11 months, MDS will provide curriculum, resources, training, and support in English, so you can then lead trainings to teach your peers in their local languages and organizations.

Allied health professionals include (but are not limited to) physical therapists, neuropsychologists, speech-language pathologists, registered nurses, and support staff.

Trainers will learn not only specialized movement disorders techniques for their field, but also the best methods to organize education programs, including logistics, teaching strategies, and program evaluation.

Who Should Apply

MDS members that live in the African Section, who:

  • Have experience working with patients in a clinical setting who are or work with allied health professionals on a consistent basis, including:
    • Physical Therapists
    • Neuropsychologists
    • Speech-Language Pathologists
    • Registered Nurses and Support Staff
  • Are dedicated to teaching and training foundational principles of healthcare professionals.
  • Have a proficiency in both English and the local language of their local constituents.

The 11-month program will include virtual activities and one in-person component from September 2024 - July 2025. Selected trainers are required to participate in the entire duration of the program.

MDS Training & Education
MDS-sponsored training includes a training sessions both virtually and in person, online activities, and ongoing mentorship between program faculty and trainers. 

  • Virtual training components: Trainers complete a series of virtual sessions fortnightly on Tuesdays over a period of 2.5 months between August and November. Exact dates TBD.
  • In-person training components: Trainers complete a 2-day training on assessment and treatment techniques with real patients:
    • December 6-7 
    • Casablanca, Morocco
    • Venue TBA

January - July 2025
Local Training Program Development and Implementation
Trainers will present local training programs at their local institutions or appropriate national society event. Trainers are responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of the local training programs. Expert faculty will continue to assist in an advisory capacity. 
IMPORTANT: MDS does not provide funding for local training programs.

By August 15, 2025
Trainer Reporting
Trainers will share a written report of their local training event using evaluation and reporting templates that will be provided.
